Check out this #DITL with Atlanta Ambassador Vlad! Vlad took headshots for an interview for sponsors` of his team. He also grabbed a quick group photo with his teammates.
"The interview was for sponsors, to help see the changes they are fostering in the lives of youth like me. Their contributions make a real difference, and I am a testament to that. I’m currently part of the Columbus Elite FC team, where I’m honing my soccer skills. I’m proud to support the Fostering Success Act in Georgia. This initiative provides resources and support to young people aging out of the foster care system. As part of this program, they offer life coaches to help us succeed while enrolled in college." . . . . #CARES #CARES4Power #ATL #ATLYouth #CARESAmbassador #NationalFosterCareAwarenessMonth #Georgia #Soccer #Sports
For too many young people, negotiating the challenges and opportunities of entering adulthood is a daily struggle. We believe that we owe young adults meaningful opportunities, including fulfilling jobs that pay a living wage, have predictable hours, and provide workplace protections; housing that is safe, healthy, and stable; health care that is affordable and affirming, and includes support for managing stress, anxiety, and other mental health needs; and for those who are parenting, affordable and responsive child care. Each icon listed resembles the necessary needs for young people to thrive. We know that children and youth do best when they are able to remain in their homes and communities. And when families do become known to the child welfare system, it is the system’s responsibility to partner with families in ways that promote autonomy and provide supports and resources that keep families together. For LGBTQ+ youth and their families, this requires having a system, including staff, that engage youth and families with dignity and are affirming and responsive to their needs, as well as partnerships with a broader network of community-based supports that can meet families’ needs. Check out our full statement on how Systems, policies, and communities play an important role in affirming LGBTQ+ young people in the foster care system on our blog. 🔗 in bio.
Young people want to be seen for their whole selves and deserve to feel encouraged, affirmed, and supported as they make their way in the world.
