Tiffany Cannon

She/Her/Hers

Hi everyone, I’m Tiffany Cannon and I live in Atlanta, GA. I’m currently working with an apprenticeship program as a security analyst for Elevance-Health (formerly known as Anthem Inc) and attending school at Atlanta Tech College-majoring in cybersecurity and database. My goal is to become a security analyst senior within one of our cybersecurity departments since this has been my dream career and passion as a young child.

I joined the CARES project because I deeply care about how the child welfare system treats older youth who are leaving foster care or signing themselves out and they need to be more supportive of older youths. If older youths had the support and a helping hand to navigate, then many things wouldn’t be as difficult as they are now, and becoming an adult and having their own would be less stressful.

When I’m not at school or working during the week, you can find me doing volunteer work for the elderly, spending time with my nieces and nephews, or traveling.

We know that children and youth do best when they are able to remain in their homes and communities. And when families do become known to the child welfare system, it is the system’s responsibility to partner with families in ways that promote autonomy and provide supports and resources that keep families together. ⁣
⁣
For LGBTQ+ youth and their families, this requires having a system, including staff, that engage youth and families with dignity and are affirming and responsive to their needs, as well as partnerships with a broader network of community-based supports that can meet families’ needs.⁣
