Braeden Furubotten

(He/Him/His)

Hello everyone, I’m Braeden Furubotten and I live in Columbus, Ga. I am currently working as a retail associate for walmart and will be attending school at Columbus technical College. My goal is to become a Welder for the union. Welding allows you to work with your hands rather than at a desk. Also, I have many opportunities to travel and work in various types of environments.

I joined the CARES project because I believe that child welfare systems need to be more supportive of older youth who are leaving foster care. If older youth are better supported when we leave care, it won’t be so challenging to become an adult and be on our own.
When I am not working, I’m either doing my side hustle or working out.

We know that children and youth do best when they are able to remain in their homes and communities. And when families do become known to the child welfare system, it is the system’s responsibility to partner with families in ways that promote autonomy and provide supports and resources that keep families together. ⁣
⁣
For LGBTQ+ youth and their families, this requires having a system, including staff, that engage youth and families with dignity and are affirming and responsive to their needs, as well as partnerships with a broader network of community-based supports that can meet families’ needs.⁣
